Don Burns
Born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, Don moved to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1993. He started hiking shortly after relocating here, and has hiked all of the mountains around The Valley of the Sun,…some many times. After working as a paralegal for fourteen years, Don graduated from Phoenix School of Law in May 2009. Presently he volunteers as a member of the Imperial Court of Arizona, and he owns a photography business based in Phoenix. Beanut is his dog, -”a crazy fox terrier”, says Don. He enjoys photography, hiking (duh!), traveling, writing, cars, computer gaming (real time strategy games are my favorite) and Dungeons & Dragons, including Dming a 4e campaign right now.

Ingrid Appelt
Ingrid was born and raised in Germany and started hiking with her parents in the Bavarian Alps at age 6. When she moved to the U.S., she went to live in Massachusetts for 18 years. When everyone there drove to Cape Cod and the beach in the summers, she headed for the mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont. She has hiked portions of the Appalachian Trail, including the highest peaks in the Northeast: Mt. Washington (NH) , Mt. Mansfield (VT) and Katahdin (ME). Her love of the outdoors has prevailed over the years and now living in Arizona, she thinks it’s paradise where hiking is possible the entire year round. She has hiked to Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the Grand Canyon 3 times so far. Ingrid has been leading hikes for years for the Austrian Society of Arizona and the Canine Hiking Club of Arizona.

Dallas
Dallas’ family owned a campground in Illinois for 10 years of his childhood, so he was outdoors a great deal. He began traveling within the U.S. in 2005, and just began to slow down a little. He’s lived in Wisconsin, West Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, California, Hawaii, and a short stint at the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Dallas also worked as a kayak and backpacking guide and is also currently a raft guide as well. During his free time you can find Dallas hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, canoeing, climbing, or rafting throughout Arizona. Hike In Phoenix is proud to “toot” the horn for Dallas because he’s certified as a Wilderness First Responder through the National Outdoor Leadership School and in addition, he’s a certified Kayak Touring Instructor with the American Canoeing Association.

Laura
Happy Hike ‘n Mama. Laura moved here from Northern California over 15 years ago, she took to the desert like a duck to water. She has truly enjoyed the active lifestyle the valley provides through much of the year. Mountain Biking, Hiking, Kayaking & Camping… she’s seen this area from almost every angle. She has always had a love of the outdoors, something she enjoys sharing now with her daughters. They learn so much on the trails from desert life and plants to life lessons like, the view from the top is worth the work to get there. “Come find the view from the top with me.”

Alex Rangel
Alex Rangel is a 49 year native Arizonan and has hiked the State’s trails all of his life. He is a fire captain for the City of Phoenix and a father to his seven year old daughter, Lexie. Alex is a member of the fire department’s mountain rescue team and knows first hand the importance of hiking safety. While he enjoys fly- fishing, he’s also is a free lance photo journalist whose photos and articles have been published in several national outdoors magazines. In addition, Alex also travels to other countries teaching fire departments technical rescue and hazardous materials response. With Alex as your Hike In Phoenix guide, he’ll be sure to share his knowledge and experience with you. He also loves a good cup of coffee!
